Assassin Job Change Guide (Ragnarök Online – Renewal)
Overview
The Assassin job change is the second job advancement for characters who started as Novice and became a Thief. Assassins specialize in dual-wielding daggers or using Katar-type weapons, critical hits, poison, and high Flee. This guide explains how to change from Thief to Assassin in a clear, player-focused way.
Requirements
- Base Level: 40+ recommended (you can change earlier, but higher makes the test easier)
- Job Level: 50 (recommended for maximum skill points; minimum is typically 40)
- Skills: Thief skills as you prefer (no specific ones required for the change)
- Items: 1 Blue Gemstone is mentioned in some versions but is NOT required here; bring healing items
- Zeny: None required
Where to Go
- Assassin Guild is located in the underground guild hall at map: in_moc_16
- Entrance is accessed from the Morocc region
Key NPCs inside the guild:
- “Ferocious-looking guy” / Guildsman at approximately (19,33)
- Guildsman at approximately (25,90)
- Nameless One at approximately (19,154)
- Standby/Test Guide near (21,165)
Note: Exact coordinates may vary slightly between servers/episodes, but the flow is the same.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
-
Enter the Assassin Guild
- Go to the Assassin Guild map: in_moc_16.
- Talk to the “Ferocious-looking guy” near the entrance (around 19,33). If you have unspent Thief skill points, assign them before proceeding.
-
Registration and Briefing
- Proceed deeper inside and speak to the Guildsman (around 25,90). He’ll brief you on the exam process and send you toward the testing hall.
-
Meet the Nameless One (Pre-Test Room)
- Go to the waiting area near the Nameless One (around 19,154). You’ll be moved between small rooms and given instructions.
- The staff will remind you: do NOT leave unused skill points; be prepared for traps and a timed test.
-
Assassin Written/Rules Acknowledgment
- The Test Guide will explain the challenge. Read carefully; the core of the test is target identification under time pressure.
-
Practical Exam: Target Identification under Time Limit
- You’ll be transported to a test area within in_moc_16.
- Objective: Within 3 minutes, hunt ONLY monsters named exactly “Job change target”.
- Failure Conditions:
- Attacking or killing any other similarly named decoys (e.g., “Job change creature”, “Job change monster”, “Job quest target”, etc.).
- Triggering hidden traps on the floor (they will warp you back and count as a mistake).
- Running out of time.
- Tips for Success:
- Zoom your camera out and read monster names carefully before attacking.
- Avoid stepping rapidly through tight corridors; move deliberately to reduce trap triggers.
- Use Teleport items/cards if disabled? In most versions, teleport is disabled here—plan to walk.
- Bring Fly Wing only if allowed by your server; otherwise ignore.
- Keep Healing Items ready; traps can deal damage.
- Feedback During Test:
- You’ll receive announcements like “2 minutes left”, “1 minute left,” and countdown messages.
-
Results and Retakes
- If you make a mistake, you’ll be warped back to the waiting point and may have to retry after a short dialogue.
- If you pass (kill the correct targets only within the time), you’ll be returned to the examiner for the final interview.
-
Final Interview and Job Change
Rewards
- Job Change: Thief → Assassin
- Necklace of Oblivion handling: Some versions reference a temporary quest necklace; if it’s taken away during the process and you time out, simply talk to the NPC again to proceed. The standard outcome is the job change itself.
- Typical Starter Weapon: A Katar or novice-friendly weapon may be granted in some versions; if not, prepare your own gear.
Special Cases
- Reborn/Transcendent Path:
- If you are on the transcendent path (e.g., becoming Assassin Cross later), the flow will acknowledge your background. Follow the same steps; dialogue may differ slightly.
- Already Changed Jobs:
- If you are already an Assassin or another second job, NPCs will give flavor text and no change will occur.
Tips and Recommendations
- Aim for Thief Job Level 50 before changing to maximize skill points.
- Consider bringing Aspd-boosting foods and Agi/Dex foods if available to help with test speed and accuracy.
- If you plan to use dual daggers, prepare a good off-hand dagger; for Katar builds, prepare a decent Katar and Crit gear early.
- Save your spawn point near Morocc for convenience.
