Swordman Job Change Guide (Ragnarök Online – Renewal)
Overview
The Swordman job change quest promotes you from Novice to Swordman, a frontline melee class with high HP and access to many weapon types. This guide summarizes the in-game script behavior and provides the exact steps, requirements, locations, and rewards.
Requirements
- Base Level: Any level (recommended 10+)
- Job Level: 10 (Novice)
- Skills: Basic Skill Level 9 learned
- Items: None required
- Zeny: None required
Step 1: Meet the Requirements
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Reached Novice Job Level 10
- Learned Basic Skill up to Level 9
If you do not meet these, keep leveling as a Novice and invest points into the Basic Skill tree.
Step 2: Go to the Swordman Guild (Izlude)
Proceed to the Swordman Guild in Izlude and speak with the Swordman Guild NPC.
- Location: Izlude (indoors), map: izlude_in
- NPC: Swordman Guildsman (script tag "Swordman#swd")
- Coordinates: (74, 172)
What to do:
- Talk to the NPC and choose: "I want to be a Swordman."
What happens:
- The NPC will check your Job Level and Basic Skill level.
- If requirements are not met, you will be told you need Job Level 10 and Basic Skill Level 9.
- If requirements are met, you can proceed with the job change immediately.
Step 3: Confirm the Job Change
- When prompted, choose: "Yes, I do." to become a Swordman right away.
- The NPC will finalize the change and congratulate you.
Results:
- Job Change: Novice → Swordman
- You will receive a starter weapon reward.
Rewards
- Equipment: Novice Falchion (N_Falchion) — in rAthena script:
getitem 13415, 1 - Job: Swordman (Job_Swordman)
Notes:
- Some servers may localize the item name to Falchion or Novice Falchion; the internal ID in the reference script is 13415.
Additional Information and Dialog Options
If you ask about the Swordman job instead of changing immediately, you will receive background information:
- Swordmen excel in close combat, have higher HP than other first jobs, can wield most weapons (except Bows and Rods), and have many physical attack skills.
If you already have another first job (not Novice):
- The NPC will refuse the change and mention you are already another job.
If you are already a Swordman:
- The NPC will acknowledge that you are already a Swordman.
Reborn/Upper Classes (High Novice → High Swordman)
If your character is a reborn class (Upper = 1) and you are a High Novice destined for Lord Knight or Paladin paths:
- The NPC recognizes that you have been reborn.
- Requirements still apply (must have mastered Basic Skills).
- On success, you will be changed to High Swordman (Job_Swordman_High).
- Skills automatically granted in the script for High Swordman path:
- NV_TRICKDEAD removed (set to 0)
- SM_MOVINGRECOVERY Level 1
- SM_FATALBLOW Level 1
- SM_AUTOBERSERK Level 1
If you are reborn but not destined for the Swordman path:
- The NPC indicates Swordman is not your destiny and will not change your job.
