Taekwon Job Change Guide (Ragnarök Online – Renewal)
Overview
The Taekwon job change is a fast, beginner-friendly quest that turns your Novice into a martial artist who fights with fists and feet. This guide explains everything you need to do as a player, step by step.
Requirements
- Base Level: Any (recommended 20+ before starting the questions)
- Job Level: 9 (Novice)
- Skills: All Basic Skills learned
- Items: None required
- Zeny: None required
Why Base Level 20? If you are below 20 when you first talk to the trainer, you will be asked to gain +1 Base Level before you can continue. Being 20 or higher lets you proceed immediately.
Step 1: Prepare as a Novice
Before heading out, make sure you:
- Reach Novice Job Level 9
- Learn all Basic Skills
- (Recommended) Level your Base to 20 to skip the “gain +1 level” step later
If you’re not there yet, train on nearby fields around your starting city until you meet these requirements.
Step 2: Find the Taekwon Trainer “Phoenix”
- NPC Name: Phoenix (Taekwon Trainer)
- Location: Payon area, in the Taekwon training grounds (commonly inside or near a dojang/training hall). If you’re unsure, ask other players in Payon or check a city guide/map service.
Tip: Set your Save Point nearby so you can return quickly if you need to gain one more Base Level.
Step 3: Begin the Training
Talk to Phoenix and choose to start the Taekwon training.
What happens next:
- If your Novice Job Level is below 9, Phoenix will tell you to come back later.
- If your Base Level is below 20, Phoenix will ask you to gain +1 Base Level and return.
- If your Base Level is 20 or higher, you can move straight to the spiritual questions.
Step 4: The Spiritual Questions (Correct Answers)
You will be asked a series of questions to test your spirit. Choose the following options to proceed smoothly:
-
When facing great difficulty, how do you respond?
- Pick: “I face it head on.”
-
When two viewpoints clash, how do you respond?
- Pick: “Accept differences and learn from them.”
Answering anything else will end the interview early. If that happens, just talk to Phoenix again and retry.
Step 5: Dedication and Job Change
Phoenix will ask a final, important question about dedicating yourself to the art. Choose “Yes” to proceed.
You will then:
- Change job from Novice to Taekwon
- Receive beginner equipment (typically a Guard and a training outfit set)
Inventory tip: Keep at least 2 free slots before completing the job change so you don’t miss any rewards.
Rewards
- Job Change: Novice → Taekwon
- Equipment: A basic shield (Guard) and training uniform (exact items may vary slightly)
- Titles: Your character may be informally referred to as “Taekwon Boy” or “Taekwon Girl” depending on gender
Tips and Recommendations
-
Leveling for the +1 Base requirement
- If Phoenix asks you to gain +1 Base Level, head to low-level fields around your save city or Payon Forest. Return once you’ve leveled.
-
Early Skills
- Consider skills that improve mobility and survivability first, then work toward your preferred playstyle.
-
Gearing Up
- The provided Guard and outfit are enough to get started. Upgrade gear as you level.
-
Quality of Life
- Bring some potions for the trip. Set a Save Point near the trainer for quick retries if needed.
